The Underground Shopper writes about the gourmet foods at half price, as well as the store's cleanliness. Coffee lovers like the many varieties of Joe for about two dollars a pound. Store also has a good frozen food section. First right side aisle of the store has many of the gourmet and organic products. Recent finds included seven kinds of organic and fair trade ground coffee, $1.99 for 12 ounces ($2.65 pound) and a 10 ounce jar of Gia Russa Artichoke Bruschetta Topping at $1.50 (compare at $7.95) with a best by date of May 10, 2009. A great twofer is a ten ounce jar of Eleona Greek Chalkidiki olives with almonds packed in extra virgin premium Greek olive oil. Rather than the $11.49 price you get on the web, these are 99 cents for a 10 ounce jar. If you just want the olives, at six ounces dry weight and 10 ounces net weight, you get four ounces of olive oil. At this rate, you get extra virgin olive oil at 9.9 cents an ounce.

Greatest variety and selection of any salvage food store in Texas. In business since 1954. Best and largest frozen and cold food sections of any surplus store in the Metroplex. Frequent unannounced half off sales on meat, cheeses, and other products. Recent (July 2008) deals: Parmesan, pecorino, mozzarella cheese $2 pound. American cheese $1 pound. In the produce section, half pint of blueberries 75 cents, small carton of raspberries 75 cents, nectarines 49 cents pound. Voted one of two best gourmet food stores in Fort Worth. Super deal in the gourmet section--99 cents for 8.45 ounce bottle of La Forestiere Black Truffle Flavored Oil compared to $17.99 on the web. A two pound box of Lamme's taffy Peppermint Kisses was $1.98 at Town Talk versus $28.45 on the company's website. A Dannon plant less than five miles from the store means you see frequent appearances of yogurt by the case. Depending on the type of yogurt and amount, cases start at $4. Expect a line to get in on Saturday mornings when more of the store is open and this is the day when meat is on half price, if there is a half price sale that week.

Recent good deal--case of Rito's round nacho tortilla chips. Two dollars for 48 bags at 3.5 ounces each, or 1.2 cents per ounce. Home project prices--$5 cans of paint, recent buy 3.5 ton air conditioner with Energy Star rating for $350. Family run business for more than 30 years. Moved into the site of the former Grand Prairie post office. Expansions over the year now have Topline covering half a block with another warehouse across the street. Good prices on furniture as well as food, home repair, and cleaning products.

The "more" in the name could describe the shopping center. Anchor tenant large flea market. On Saturdays sales offers from all sides, from the person handing out calling card offers as you drive by to vendors touting DVDs from the back of their vans. Good selection of frozen foods, and one brand of coffee was four pounds for $7.

Northeast corner Little York and Airline. Website gives weekly specials, new items that are also sale items, and usually a store coupon. This website is best viewed in Internet Explorer, not Firefox. Some former specials have been free 10 ounce packages of marshmallows, limit 10 packs, toilet tissue 3 banana boxes for $7, and a more mainstream offer of six pounds of Oscar Mayer sausage for $5.99. Current online coupon gives $3 off a purchase of $15 or more. Store has been in business since 1984. Store strip center also has a large 99 cents store in the middle of the complex, and an extreme thrift store on the far end. At the thrift store, items start at $1.75 each on Thursdays and drop 25 cents a day until they reach 25 cents each on Wednesday mornings. The store closes Wednesday afternoons to restock, then everything starts again Thursday morning.

Easier to find entrance is on South St. Marys Street. Located south of downtown near King William District. Go early--one checker and basket line gets long in the afternoon. Recent purchase--Royal Cup Dark Roast coffee $2 a pound. Recent nice price already sold--3 gallon container of Breyer's Rocky Road ice cream $7.50. Three gallons is eight 1.5 quart containers.

Owner also has an appliance repair business run from the same location. This is a small salvage store with three rows. Still, Kokak film at 10 cents a roll, tonic water 10 cents a quart, and numerous can goods. No cold food department. If everyone is gone, there's a sign on the door saying when they expect to be back. This is not a store where you would plan to do a lot of grocery shopping. There is a convenience store on one side of Marty's, a dollar store on the other side.
