Half Chicago’s grammar schools didn’t send a single student to any of the city’s “elite four” college prep high schools last year: Northside College Prep, Walter Payton, Whitney Young, or Jones. Meanwhile, a group of 17 public elementary schools, nearly all of them gifted or magnet schools that students must lottery or test into, sent double-digit numbers of students to the vaunted high schools.
Data is the most recent available. Students included in this data set are currently freshmen and were accepted during the 2010-11 admissions cycle.
