Suicides in Northern Ireland 1998-2012

This map was created by The Detail using Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency data. It shows the number of suicide deaths registered in each council area from 1998-2012. The 2012 data is currently provisional. The deaths may have taken place prior to the year of registration. We added each council area's deprivation ranking based on the Northern Ireland Multiple Deprivation Measure. We also calculated the average annual suicide rate per 100,000 of the population based on the last three years' data (2010-12) and NISRA's mid-year population estimates. This ranges from 24 deaths per 100,000 of the population in Belfast Council area (the most deprived council) to 7 in Magherafelt (the least deprived).
