This map was compiled by The Detail using data from 2001 household survey and the new results from the 2011 Census. Respondents who did not state a religion were asked what religion they were brought up in. This map brings together the information on religion and 'religion brought up in'. We mapped the data using the address of each council's headquarters. For Northern Ireland as a whole in 2011, 45% of the population were either Catholic or brought up as Catholic, 48% belonged to or were brought up Protestant or other Christian, 0.9% were 'other' religions and 5.6% neither belonged to nor had been brought up in a religion.
