Notes: Northeast Passage, founded in 1990, is a nationally recognized leader in the provision of innovative therapeutic recreation services. Northeast Passage delivers disability-related health promotion and adapted sports programs throughout New England. Northeast Passage is a program of the University of New Hampshire’s College of Health and Human Services and is an affiliate of Disabled Sports USA. Each winter season, Northeast Passage runs a series of cross country ski events at various Nordic destinations in New England.  In addition, Northeast Passage is working to develop a culture of adaptive Nordic racing in New England and trains athletes for entrance into local races and national competition.

Notes: TASP’s main activities include the adaptive ski program operating daily during the winter at the Telluride Ski Area and a mix of focused summer sports programs. We also conduct clinics and special events including the Expand Your Horizons! Ski Camp-for advanced skiers with disabilities, cycling clinics, Nordic and snowshoe clinics, and more. TASP also provides volunteer opportunities, training for staff and volunteers, scholarships for students needing financial assistance and adaptive equipment. This past winter, we initiated a Wounded Warriors project for Troops injured in Iraq and Afghanistan. We plan to expand this project and host three weeklong events for active duty servicemen/women and Vets with disabilities this winter and next summer. Through these activities, our participants develop increased physical awareness, balance and strength as well as an incredible sense of accomplishment. TASP has been growing strategically and methodically, serving an increasing number of students and incrementally expanding activities and resources.

Notes: We are outdoor recreation leaders who have decided to do something to help US military amputees.  Director Marc Mast is a Sun Valley Ski Instructor, the Ski School’s Director of Adaptive Sports and Director of the Wood River Ability Program (WRAP). In addition to 30 years of ski instruction Marc has 26 years of experience (beginning with the Viet Nam conflict) helping wounded veterans develop new skills in outdoor recreation.

Notes: Anyone Can Learn to Ski/Snowboard — NEHSA offers adaptive ski and Snowboard lessons to people of all ages and all disabilities. At Mount Sunapee Resort , where our homebase and winter program reside, skiers participate in either a stand up or sit-down program, some people try both. Among our stand-up skiers are amputees, persons who have recovered from polio or strokes, skiers with cerebral palsy, blind skiers, deaf skiers, and persons with developmental disabilities. Participants in our sit-down program may include persons with spina bifida, multiple sclerosis, paraplegic and quadriplegic.
