Comment: This is important to me because human trafficking exploits the young vulnerable people. The young people are the future leaders and their experiences today will impact the future of our communities. If young people are denied the chance to learn what human dignity means due to horrible experiences like sexual exploitation they forced to go through, then their future is not as promising. These children should be in school preparing for a productive future. I want it this kind of slavery to stop so that children can have their chance in life.

Comment: Minors are literally LURED into sexual exploitation by keenly aware adults, who recognize the victim's own neediness for the basics in life, such as love and the security of a loving home. The law needs to recognize the ABUSIVE CRIMINAL nature of these actions upon a minor. Many victims, and Tracey's story above is indicative of this, come from homes that have already traumatized their potentiality for living a healthy and self-sufficient lifestyle. It comes down to the pervasive long-term effects of all forms of domestic violence and abuse. Those victimized face one of two trajectories in terms of outcomes; that being, they either become a perpetrator, or they become the prey, as in this instance of Tracy --- a minor being sexually exploited. Support the passage of SAFE HARBOR LAWS to protect and restore minors who are victimized by sexual exploitation.

Comment: This story triggered long-forgotten memories. I remember in my early teens being watched at the mall by a man wearing a white suit. Another man pulled up to me in a car while walking down the street and asked if I would get in and show him where the park was. Thankfully that's all that happened to me but not all girls are so lucky or so timid as to stay away from strangers as I was. Teach all the girls you know about how to discern evil and good. Teach them how to find godly love--so they don't end up in the arms of the devil looking for the love of God they never got at home. And when a girl ends up swindled and abused, we can at least protect their safety and honor as we help them escape. If you're not sure yourself how to find true, godly love, take a look through some of these books: "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" (not really, but it's a catchy title and a bestseller by Joshua Harris); and "Quest for Love" by Elizabeth Elliot; "Safe People" by Henry Cloud. Prevention is always more effective long term than surgery.

If Sara Kruzan had had and known about laws like this, maybe she would have broken out of the cycle of her abuse and not have spent the last 18 years of her life in prison for being coerced into killing the man who molested, groomed and prostituted her till she was 16 years old.

They should be hanging with friends, playing soccer or video games, listening to their favorite music, or talking to their crush. Not being abused, raped, beaten, lied to, and tortured. No one should have to go through that. This has to end. And it has to end now.

Unless we have safe harbor laws here child predators with continue to use our children as commodities to be used and discarded. I am a father to a precious little Girl, and I want her protected against this form of evil. I also have an older sister who was introduced to drugs at a very early age and has had an unmanageable life ever since. Please pass Safe Harbor Laws in Michigan.

Comment: The cycle of abuse is so magnified in this very issue. Over 95% of minors (and adults for that matter) who are involved in sexual exploitation were abused in their earliest years, What started as a gross imposition on their innocence then becomes a way someone else makes money. Even if they receive any meal, money or a roof to sleep under, it is a disgusting insult that they should be subjected to a life they cannot get out of alone. Who would choose this life? No one. It is not their offense. It is the offense of those who started the cycle in their lives.

Comment: Laws should complement each other. So how can a juvenile be held accountable for his/her sexual actions when he/she can't consent to sex in the first place? Human trafficking will continue to occur if survivors don't receive protection and supportive conditions after having escaped from trafficking. I have heard many stories about survivors facing so much trauma after liberation that they went back to the trafficker. At least that was familiar to them. That should never happen, and our legislation should assure that.

Comment: The sickening fact that children are being exploiting in the sex trafficing industry is bad enough. What is worse, however, is that these children are too often prosecuted as criminals instead of given the support and care that they so desperately need. I plead in the cause of humanity and justice and demand as a taxpayer and voter that these atrocities are stopped. Institute Safe Harbor Laws. Protect these children now.

Comment: I am personally aware of the child trafficing situation because I lived in two towns where children were borrowed or kidnapped and prostituted and one of the children was mine I had to to rescue from this thing. Human trafficers are too mean for children to rescue themselves. They borrow children right out of their homes as well as steal them, adopt and foster them, etc. It's a huge business and my life was in danger so many times for having held up the loudspeaker about it and put some exposure on them. The situation is very dangerous to disturb and the police know that. This subject needs all the help it can get.

It's time to focus on apprehending the criminals selling these children. It's time to turn victims into survivors. Instead, they should be provided with a safe environment and services to help them recover from their awful experiences. Sending a child to jail for being forced into a terrible trade is inexcusable and an embarrassment on behalf of the United States. Comment: Childhood should be a place where you can make mistakes in judgement and have the opportunity to learn from them without it being detrimental to your life. You should be able to be guided and protected by adults. When this doesn't occur where it should at home and local community, and when unscrupulous persons exploit this vulnerability, we as a society should step in and offer protection and guidance.

Comment: Children being arrested and prosecuted for prostitution when they are there against there will is not justice, it's laziness on the part of our justice system. These children are victims, not perpetrators; they are being threatened, beaten, raped, coerced, and held against their will by individuals looking to turn a profit on their suffering. In the department I work at we PROTECT those who have been subjected to such treatment and PROSECUTE the ones who subjected them to it. It's time we start doing this nationwide and showing those helpless victims that they are indeed cared for and that their lives have worth far greater than sex for money.

Comment: As an adult survivor of child abuse I find that the courts and the public have no idea of the actuality in child abuse. In this country parents who abuse their children in any way are given custody of those children when they get out of jail. Parents make money off their little children by selling sleepover dates to pedophiles and to child porn countries. Their logic is the child needs to help support the family. I grew up on a city block of 18 houses and in 7 of those houses a total of 16 children were physically, emotionally, verbally, psychologically and sexually abused by a total of 14 heterosexual, married parents.

For some strange reason we have known this in the back of our minds, while in the forefront we have always blamed the prostitutes, totally ignoring the dominance of the pimp.
